About the UNWTO Awards Forum

The UNWTO Awards Forum showcases the initiatives, best practices, and challenges of UNWTO Award finalists. It serves as a world-class platform to bring together policy makers, tourism practitioners, and tourism academia.

Every year the UNWTO Knowledge Network will organize the UNWTO Awards Forum to allow the tourism sector to learn from the outstanding achievements of UNWTO Awardees and Ulysses Prize Laureates. The Forum is organized alongside the UNWTO Awards during the timeframe of FITUR

The UNWTO Awards Ceremony was preceded by the UNWTO Awards Forum on January 18, which provided all finalists of the 12th UNWTO Awards with an unparalleled opportunity to present their outstanding projects and explain the key to their success setting the focus on their innovative features. UNWTO Awards Forum 2013: Bridging Theory and Practice

During the 2013 edition of the UNWTO Awards Symposium, the UNWTO Awardees had the opportunity to share their experiences and challenges the day after the UNWTO Awards Ceremony on FITUR. The Symposium was open to all FITUR attendants, official delegations, academics and tourism professional in general.

Panel Discussions of Innovation and Tourism: Competitiveness and the Future of Tourism

Panel on Innovation in Tourism & Competitiveness

The 2013 UNWTO Awardees for Innovation discussed the role of innovation in tourism competitiveness, and the future of the sector in two dynamic sessions that were live streamed to the world.  

Panel on Competitiveness: In a highly competitive industry, innovation is a key element to differentiate tourism destinations and enterprises. The panel gave light about the application of innovative solutions in tourism to enhance the visitors experience and foster competitive destinations.

Panel on Building Future in Tourism: Despite the constant growth of the tourism sector in terms of visitors and its economic impact on destinations, innovation in the sector is still untapped. Increasingly so, tourism organizations are looking into new ways to engage visitors, enhance linkages in the value chain, foster tourism entrepreneurship and apply technology into tourism services and products. In this line, the panel addressed challenges and next steps to foster innovation in the tourism sector.

Announcement of KN Global Forum in Anuahuac- 28-30 May, 2014

UNWTO announced details for its 2nd Knowledge Network Global Forum – Innovation in Tourism: Bridging Theory and Practice, to be held in Mexico City, Mexico from 28 – 30 May, 2013. The 2nd Knowledge Network Global Forum will feature an official meeting of UNWTO Knowledge Network members with major public and private sector partners to discuss KN´s programme of work, keynote speeches on innovation in tourism and presentations of case studies and academic papers on innovation in tourism related to products and enterprises, competitiveness and technologies.
