Sustainable Hospitality Programme, Asociación de Hoteles de Turismo de la República Argentina - AHT

2012 UNWTO Ulysses Award for Innovation in Non-Governmental Organizations

1st Runner Up: Sustainable Hospitality Programme, Asociación de Hoteles de Turismo de la República Argentina - AHT, Argentina

The Tourist Hotel Association of Argentina (AHT) has been developing since 2010 a strategic plan to boost competitiveness and sustainability of Argentina's hospitality. At the core of this strategy is framed the Sustainable Hospitality Program, which has already completed its first stage in the biennium 2011-2012.

On the first stage of the program, a plan was designed to raise awareness and have a diagnosis of hotels in different tourist regions. On a second stage, the program was developed in two parallel initiatives. On one side, the AHT, with the support of FEHGRA convened the 1st edition of the National Competition for Best Sustainable Hotel Project "Green + Hotels". On the other hand, the AHT has developed the "Hotels + Green" scheme of eco-labeling and certification in sustainable hospitality, aiming to define the guidelines for the recognition of proper sustainable management applicable to Argentina hotels and tourist accommodation. The eco-labeling scheme provides criteria for the efficient use of resources, minimizes negative impacts and maximizes the positive impacts on their social, cultural and environmental scope.

"It is an honor for AHT receiving the UNWTO Ulysses Award highlighting this highly innovative project in the area of sustainability".
